According to recent polls, roughly 30 percent of all Americans eat cold cereal in the morning. Given the amazing taste and convenience of this wonder food, one wonders why the percentage isn’t even higher (oatmeal? I mean, come on people). While there are plenty of great cereal flavors on the shelves these days, it’s easy to look back and yearn for a few favorites that are no longer available. Below are 12 discontinued cereals that should totally be revived.
12 Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters Cereal
Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters Cereal was released in the early 1990s in conjunction with the similarly titled cartoon that was on around at the same time. The product is essentially Froot Loops with a different shape (the classic Ghostbusters red circle with the line through it). However, it should also be pointed out that there were freakin’ MARHSMALLOWS in this totally rocking cereal as well. With the release of a new Ghostbusters movie in the works, this cereal needs to be back in our lives.
11 Bill and Ted’s Excellent Cereal
Despite his numerous movie roles (and perpetual sad bench sitting), Keanu Reeves is still most closely identified with Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Why not, then, bring back the vintagely-delicious cereal that was only briefly available in 1989? Recent rumors of a new Bill and Ted movie are further reason to get this bad boy back on the shelves.
10 Donkey Kong Cereal
Donkey Kong Cereal was available from 1982 to 1983. From the box it looks a lot like Cap’n Crunch. Despite a 30-year break in production, Donkey Kong remains in the public eye. As such, he could easily make a come back in the cereal aisle.


9 Fruity Yummy Mummy
Yummy Mummy is one of two fallen monsters to be dropped by General Mills (the other being Fruit Brute). While his pals Boo Berrry, Count Chocula and Franken Berry remain, poor Yummy Mummy was put back into the sarcophagus in 1993.


8 Homer’s Cinnamon Donut Cereal
Mmmm… donuts. Homer’s Cinnamon Donut Cereal was available from 2001 to 2002. It was designed to taste like day-old cinnamon donuts, and boy, did they hit the nail on the head. Despite being fairly popular, the product was pulled from shelves.


7 Dunkin’ Donuts Cereal
Here’s another donut cereal that disappeared from the grocery store for apparently no reason. Released in the early 1980s, the product sold well. Seeing as how Dunkin’ Donuts is still a juggernaut of the morning food industry, there is absolutely no excuse for these not being on the shelves.

6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cereal
In stores from 1989 to 2001, TMNT cereal looked a lot like Chex cereal with marshmallows. Though I can’t remember eating it, I’m sure this combination was a match made in heaven. Of course, a proper endorsement from the Turtles themselves only serves to further prove the epic delicious-ness of this cereal.

5 Pac-Man Cereal
In the early 80s, the world was stricken with Pac-Man fever. In an effort to feed this fever, General Mills produced a Pac-Man cereal. Check out the box, and you’ll see that the characters from Pac-Man are easily transferred into cereal form.


4 French Toast Crunch
French Toast Crunch enjoyed a long and successful run from 1995 to 2008. Though similar to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the product provided a more nuanced, maple syrup-y flavor. Though discontinued in the U.S., diehards can still find the product available in Canada.

3 Nintendo Cereal
Who can forget the cereal box with two independent cereal flavors inside? Whether you preferred the fruity combination of the Super Mario Bros. Cereal or the berry flavor of Link’s Zelda Adventure, this product was a hit at breakfast tables across the nation. Given the ever-present popularity of Mario and Link, Nintendo cereal could easily make a tidy profit if given another chance.
2 Mr. T Cereal
I pity the fool who never ate this cereal. Mr. T cereal is one of the most legendary retro cereals of all time -– and with good reason. In all honesty, the product was quite similar in flavor (if not identical) to Cap’n Crunch. Yet, there’s something about Mr. T’s endorsement that makes this cereal all the more sweet.

1 Urkel-Os
I don’t care if Family Matters has been off TV for over ten years. A cereal that features Steve Urkel on the box is still relevant in my life. Released in 1991, the product included strawberry and banana flavored rings. While I’m not sure what this flavor explosion has to do with Steve Urkel, I can safely say that I love strawberries and bananas. So, why the heck not -– let’s get a petition started to get these sweet things back on the shelf.
